It’s not an implausible thing. If a team wins the Eclipse Jamboree April 7-8 2024 At Deckard’s Farm Event shirt but in fact I love this championship with a lot of seniors, they may come back with a young team and fall short of a bid. This is what happened to NC State, Louisville and UNC. Kansas went 19–12 in 1989 (Roy Williams’ first season as a head coach) and probably would have been invited, but the Jayhawks were on probation. I’m a fan of the UCONN women, but think they could be beaten in the tourney; the hard part is figuring out who could actually hand them a loss. Most likely candidates: Baylor, Tennessee, Stanford, Notre Dame, or maybe Rutgers if they play lights out. The hard part is that Maya Moore is playing so well this year, returning vets Tiffany Hayes and Kelly Farris are putting up solid numbers, and frosh Bria Hartley, Stephanie Dolson, and Samarie Walker playing so maturely–I wouldn’t be surprised if UCONN three-peats this year. One possibility: if the UCONN women don’t lose before the tourney, they may end up losing because of the pressure. They are playing with 3 freshmen at this point. But I hope not!
This question was posted last season (in March 2010), and then the Eclipse Jamboree April 7-8 2024 At Deckard’s Farm Event shirt but in fact I love this answer turned out to be No. UConn ran the table and won the tournament in early April 2010. I don’t know officially what their odds are but with them being one of the two one seeds left I’d give them about a 1/3 odds of winning it. Not sure apart from getting to the tournament that should be the priority and obviously winning every game would make them an NCAA titleist. I picked Gonzaga in my bracket to win it all. But I believe if they don’t win it will either be Duke or North Carolina. Why? The best programs in college hoops. Kentucky, I’m not entirely convinced, even though they return some nice talent. KU the NCAA is very nostalgic. KU represents the history of college hoops. James Naismith was a Jayhawk. The refs are homers for KU as well, so they’ll be there. Kentucky is interesting. They always have a top recruiting class, but this year they had some pleasantly unexpected underclass men return. Calipari will have them peaking just right. It appears that Georgia has supplanted Alabama as the preeminent program in college football. As long as they retain Kirby Smart, Georgia has a chance to win multiple more nattys. College Football is all about coaching. Note the fall of Nebraska when Tom Osborne left, the fall of Florida State when Bobby Bowden left, or the fall of Tennessee when Phillip Fullmer left. On the other end of the spectrum, note the rise of Clemson when Dabo Sweeney came, the rise of Michigan when Jim Harbaugh came, and the rise of Tennessee when Josh Heupel came. Kirby Smart learned from the best by being on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama and he was apparently the one who learned best as he’s reached the summit himself now. Kirby Smart has built a juggernaut and as long as he stays the Bulldogs success will continue and more nattys are possible if not probable. The pendulum in college football has now swung from Roll Damn Tide to Glory Glory to Ole Georgia.
