You could probably get away with 38 wins if you split all of those division series except for 2 and still win the division. None is the answer to that one – there are two teams who’ve yet to win a league pennant (the Expos/Nationals in the N.L and Mariners in the A.L) and thus go to the World Series, but even they have made it past the first round on at least one occasion. The Expos reached the 1981 NLCS but lost to the Dodgers in five games, whilst the Mariners made trips to the ALCS in 1995, 2000 and 2001 but lost to Cleveland first time up and then twice to the Yankees subsequently. That’s a big AMEN! Too many teams, so the regular season of winning the most games doesn’t mean much anymore. How do you call the Atlanta Braves the years champ, when the Giants and Dodgers won 18+ more games than the Braves in 2021. And , this year 4— 100 game winners “bit the dust” in best of 5 game series. Heck, even an average team like Pittsburgh can be a better team in a best of 3 or 5 series. Baseball is losing it’s credibility and tv ratings as well! The 4 best winning teams of each league should battle it out , shorten the playoffs. The league should shorten the regular season by a week, back to 154 games , and finish the season in mid October, and avoid November, completely!
