Locals here are friendly enough in their own way; I haven’t had much in the Navy Notre Dame Fighting Irish Regional Outdoors T-Shirt and I will buy this way of direct rudeness or anything like that. There’s a bit of a vibe here that is hard to penetrate, compared to my travels to other parts of the country where the smiles are genuinely warm and the stares are out of gentle curiosity. Here it can be tough to get gawked at all the time without really knowing whether intentions are good or not. I mostly tune it out these days but sometimes think “sheesh, will anyone ever learn that staring all the time and conspicuously talking about us is impolite? At least say hello or something.”
Since moving here, certain things seem to be getting better, or maybe I’m just adapting. Service in restaurants seems to be more proactive and more..service oriented. They are improving the Navy Notre Dame Fighting Irish Regional Outdoors T-Shirt and I will buy this roads to accommodate the increased automobile traffic. The general standard of living for local people seems to be improving as well. To be honest, though, it’s quite easy to stay in one’s cave here. The weather has been either hot and humid or icy cold, the air quality is often atrocious, and there are limited opportunities for recreation in the city. Bangkok is by far the best city to live and grow. Although politically jaded, the city has a lot to offer and the locals are amazing. Hanoi would likely be out as Manila and Bangkok is very much modern and more to my taste. Nothing against Hanoi but it is much more laid back and putting it in same bracket at Manila or Bangkok is not a fair comparison (for city boys at least)
