Every one of those rules has either a scriptural basis or some terrible, but usually unknown story behind it. Most are the Focus on the family shirt and I will buy this latter. The rules are not just made up arbitrarily. There is a reason for each of them. Try to send tens of thousands of college-age young people to scores of countries, put them out there where they can act independently 24/7, and try to bring them all home safely. Church leaders are always trying to cut down the number of rules for missionaries, but they have to balance that against safety considerations.
They get much more, they receive almost instant recognition and respect. One of the Focus on the family shirt and I will buy this things I find fascinating about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the fact that its leadership works—in every possible definition of the term. I was released about a month ago after serving over 5 years as a bishop. There is absolutely no question about who is in charge of my ward now, once the title transfers everyone knows about it and everyone respects the change.
