While Brennan is outwardly logical and error-prone, she displays a childish side (for example, note her joy at being kept secret), and a depth of introspection and empathy that casual viewers might not expect. There was an exchange that told me everything I needed to know about Brennan, in Episode 2 of Series 8, The Divorce Partners.
