2018, it is two years later. Not a single day goes by that we don’t cherish each and every move we have made. We love it in Hockinson, WA. We love everything about it. We couldn’t be happier. Where is the Hello Nice To Me To You Shirt But I will love this best place to live in Washington? Hockinson of course! In the end, it is what you make up, but a lot of factors help influence how you feel about the place you live. That’s like asking for a comparison of apples, oranges and bananas. Washington is best noted for its rocky beaches, great clam digging, oysters and crabbing plus it has the beautiful Long Beach at the southern end. You can do a little surfing, but it’s not known for being a great sun bathing beach. Oregon has great sandy beaches and multiple lighthouses to visit. It too is known for its great crabbing and storm watching. It is very different from Washington or California, but is considered a great place to vacation with tons to do and see. California has both of the above as far as rocky and sandy beaches. I learned to scuba dive in Monterey and the views are amazing. It too has great crabbing. We picked up some fresh in Bodega Bay in January and did some great hiking at Point Reyes National Seashore. Southern California beaches are great beaches for sun bathing, surfing, sharks and crowds. Since I live just 50 miles from both the Washington beaches and the Oregon beaches, I’ll take them both. There is – to me at least – one super telling factor. That is simply “where do you work?”
Washington state has no state income taxes. Oregon does have state income taxes. And they’re pretty snippy about enforcement – if you live in Oregon, or work in Oregon, you pay Oregon income taxes. So you can’t straddle the Hello Nice To Me To You Shirt But I will love this border, claim you live in Washington so “no income tax” and work in Oregon. They saw right through that one long ago. If I were moving from, oh, I dunno, Iowa or someplace, and I didn’t have a job lined up, where would I go? Much harder. Both places are super expensive in the urban areas and pretty challenging to find employment all the way around, unless you’ve got relevant skills. Showing up and assuming you can just “find a job” is not a winning proposition in either state. I want the urban mass of Seattle, the friendly small-town(ish) feel of Portland, and the weather of Bend.
