The party was fiscally conservative and socially thoughtful. It no longer is either of those things. The GOP is now a racist, crass, bunch of Trump apologists. First he identified a group hungry for the kind of message he was willing to give. Then he turned that hunger into unflinching loyalty of a third of the electorate. Now he has turned that loyalty into carte blanche to do whatever he wants with the full blessings of the GOP. It’s an impressive feat. Eventually the Republican Party is going to have to reevaluate their goals and objectives in order to become more palatable to the changing demographics taking place in the country. The only strategy that is working for the Republican Party at this time is their ability to corrupt the election process in order to maintain a semblance of control. This strategy will work only temporarily. As minorities become the more dominant electorate, the ability to distort the will of the majority will become more difficult. The Republican Party is going to have to make a decision very soon as to whether or not they will adopt a platform that sees to the needs of the majority, or will they continue to be under the spell of the plutocratic base they are currently pandering to. If they select a narrow interpretation and continue to legislate with their primary clients being the wealthiest Americans, they will be faced with an uncomfortable choice. They will either face extinction as a political force or they will have to undermine our Democracy and attempt to create a plutocratic aristocracy of some sort.
It is a frightening situation that could go either way under our current circumstances. The manipulation of the Raiders fuck round and find out ms shirt and by the same token and Federal Judiciary gives those that favor a plutocracy a strong ally provided they can continue to dictate policy to the courts. This is not necessarily a given. Despite the ideological principles espoused by the reactionary conservative right, there are many Judges who may find that becoming complicit with the undermining of our Constitution is a “bridge to far”. Many states are in the process of reversing the gerrymandering and obstruction of voting rights that have been crucial to the Republican plan to maintain power through the manipulation of the electoral system. In other words, there are cracks beginning to appear in the foundation of the Reactionary conservative mo]movement. We are, in other words, approaching the hypothetical Rubicon.
