With all due respect…you’ve misunderstood something. Your question infers that there is a ‘normal’ response to trauma and…then there is PTSD which is apparently NOT a normal response to comparative trauma. PTSD IS A NORMAL RESPONSE to ABNORMAL traumatic events. It is the Star wars return of the jedi will be back in theaters for 40th anniversary shirt in contrast I will get this TRAUMA that is not normal. I promise you it is very normal to have the effects of PTSD after enduring the extreme trauma that people have endured to ‘earn’ that diagnosis. The things these people have had to survive are often unimaginable to the average person. It is not simply normal stress, or normal grief over a normal loss, normal sadness over a normal life circumstance, normal anxiety over a normal life challenge, or normal fear over a normal threat dealt with just by being human.

The very words ‘trauma’ or ‘traumatic’ have been diluted, I think. Granted, there are certainly degrees of trauma. But I think society uses that word so that they don’t have to NAME the Star wars return of the jedi will be back in theaters for 40th anniversary shirt in contrast I will get this actual beast. It’s a generic term people have glossed over with little thought or deep emotional attachment to it’s horrible evils. I don’t mean to be cheeky here. There are multitudes of information out there about PTSD and COMPLEX PTSD. Anyone who sincerely wishes to learn about it’s inception and how it moves and breathes once born, can find all the information they need. That includes the very scientific neurochemical responses of the elevated stress response in a brain which develops PTSD. Yes, the brain of those with Complex or Traditional PTSD are different from others. Particularly in those who’ve suffered extreme abuse from a very early childhood. Their tiny brains never had a chance. The ‘normal’ stress response in any human being…the Fight, Flight, Freeze response…get stuck in the ‘ON’ position for people who endure ongoing severe ‘trauma’. Whether that’s a war-zone in the military, native peoples living in a country laden with violent civil war, those in gang ridden areas, those who serve on our emergency services teams such as police, firefighters, emergency medical teams, etc., children being tortured by sexual abuse, rape, physical abuse and/or emotional gaslighting, or women, men or children who endure domestic violence in their homes, etc etc. These peoples brains do not ever SHUT OFF that emergency stress response. Imagine (try) not being able to fight. Oh but…wait. Can’t fly either! So the brain and the soul are overloaded by horror that WILL…NOT…QUIT! A scenario which they can not conquer, and from which they cannot escape. Enter the only response left…freeze. That’s dissociation. PTSD is hallmarked by the (sometimes rapid) cycling between what is called ‘activation’: the ON of flashbacks and overwhelming emotions, nightmares and reactions….and the ‘dissociation’: the shut OFF, numb, detached, thousand-mile-stare, depersonalized, dead nothingness. These responses are not a choice. They are what the brain does as a survival instinct. I assure you it is not only ‘normal’, but thee most base and primal, biological response to ‘trauma’.
