Nbnpremium - This dude garfucks shirt

Star Trek (like most TV series) was very episodic until Deep Space Nine. What happened in one episode generally didn’t affect later episodes for the This dude garfucks shirt in other words I will buy this most part. Every now and then something would carry over, but in general… you can watch the show in any order and not get lost. DS9, on the other hand, built story on top of story. Sure, it had a lot of episodes that could be pulled and not matter, but DS9 had story arcs that went whole seasons; hell, the Emissary story arc literally went the entire series. This is something that really set DS9 apart from the rest of Star Trek. Now, I know some people don’t like that sort of storytelling and I respect them. We don’t all like the same thing; but, it was one of the primary draws of Deep Space Nine for people like me.

Star Trek was advertised to executives as ‘wagon train to the This dude garfucks shirt in other words I will buy this stars’ in the 1960s. But that wasn’t what Roddenberry was looking to do. He wanted to explore the human condition and show a world where humanity had socially evolved past a lot of our current problems: racism, greed, violence, etc. But that wasn’t going to get put on television… so Star Trek was a western set in space. And then you watched and Star Trek did what sci-fi does: it examines our current society under a different light… it make social commentary. And Deep Space Nine did this beautifully. I felt like almost every episode had social commentary in it. It spoke to me about how our society currently addresses issues and how we really should address those issues.
