This was a very clever and original film. Hear me out. What if … what if we just agreed that creativity and novelty, even if it showed us a message that maybe isn’t 100% aligned with our worldview, is worth the effort. It’s worth having a story force you to reconsider some of your axioms. And that’s a great thing. This movie wasn’t perfect. Jeeziskrice did it monologue. Like monologue after monologue. And the movie gave us witty banter after witty banter. It gave us hilarious show tunes and dance scenes. It should have channeled all that fucking endless monologuing into a snappy song. But it didn’t and because of that, the film almost kills itself desperately trying to shoehorn long winded dialogue throughout the movie. But this is a creative and original movie. It is magical. It has some of the funniest scenes I’ve ever seen. It has a kind of “childlike” imagination and I really loved that. The whole cast shined. (Shone? Do … do we not use shone any longer?) But I am sorry to the star of this film, the four standout characters are:
But what about Margot Robbie? She was amazing because she was perfectly cast and is a highly capable actor. She really did great. But, I just didn’t stop seeing her. There is so much cutesy song and dancing that I was just a little shocked by the endless monologuing. I felt a little sad about it. Surely, they were self aware enough to know this would be an issue. And maybe “I’m not the intended audience” (which is bullshit, this message applies to everybody), but those long winded speeches should’ve been catchy songs with snappy dances and not a person or people just fucking monologuing.
