Why does baseball need 24 teams in the playoffs? That’s too much baseball. Does anyone miss the old 4 divisions in Major League Baseball? I miss a true pennant race. Unless they changed the playoff format very recently, the MLB has 10 playoff teams: The three division winners and two wild cards from each league. And once the one-game wild card play-in games have been played, there are 8 teams remaining in the playoffs. I wish MLB would go back to the old system of alternating World Series home field advantage between the leagues, instead of the lame system they recently introduced in which the league that wins the All-Star Game gets home field advantage that year. The ASG and WS are separate events and I think the linkage detracts from both of them. Ten, five from each league. Each league has three divisions. The three division champions plus two wild cards go to the post season. The wild cards play each other in a one game playoff and then face the division champion with the best record from their league.
