For the other, “fact based” is pretty stretchy. Philosophers describe “facts” as “theory laden,” so you accept the theory before the “facts” is the facts. In other words, it’s not quite as W.E.B. du Bois suggested, i.e., give me the facts and I’ll interpret them myself. I doubt that attacking one source of over-interpreted, under-factualized commentary creates a smokescreen for others. Instead, it deflects attention from his own shortcomings. If you let sleight of hand distract you from the red-lining, fraud, sexual assault, serial infidelity, violations of federal law, illegal self-dealing, illegal campaign contributions, and so forth, that’s on you. I will be more loathe to watch anything CNN tomorrow than I was yesterday. By the way, Stanley Tucci had a great success with his Searching for Italy series. So then CNN came up with their Mexico brainstorm and hired Eva Longoria to host it; Eva’s great to look at, which is way they chose her; but she seems to me to be an airhead. Although still a successful series, they now bring us John Leguizamo, who runs amok trying to find America; he’s in no way a Latin Guy Fieri, and CNN suffers for it.
