I will say that in my student years when I couldn’t afford to heat the house comfortably, I did catch colds a lot more often. Did you know in Alaska they keep the temp in the 40’s? You will teach them to take care of themselves by dressing accordingly, but more importantly how to get by and still have fun. There is much to be learned. You give them play money and and a budget they can work together on. Fill in your expenses and they can decide how to spend it. At the bottom add eating out, going places etc. when holidays come around make it work, school starting and all the other things they can think of. They will have ideas of their own. But first and foremost spend adequate time discussing it. They will learn and later appreciate the process. Parents have to give of themselves to teach others about life.
