If I had to map out an absolute dream scenario (which naturally involves getting the Oregon Ducks Spring 2024 Spring Break shirt in other words I will buy this 1st pick, and doesn’t involve me projecting compensatory picks) *The Patriots have a sixth and seventh round pick, but due to some trades, it’s unclear whose picks they actually hold right now Total speculation: Belichick and Brady don’t want to keep going without the other. They want to rack up all of the Super Bowl trophies that they can and then walk off into the sunset as the greatest coach/QB tandem in NFL history. Through that lens, it makes perfect sense that they’d use their draft to continue building the team around their MVP quarterback rather than try to replace him.
They did pick up an OT in the Oregon Ducks Spring 2024 Spring Break shirt in other words I will buy this first round and traded with my 49ers for another, so they’re working to protect their QB. But on the understanding that they’re going for broke now, it’s completely rational to stay out of the QB lottery and build around their guy. There wasn’t a player within reach of their picks, with better makeup for Pat’s football than the 2nd-year QB (J. Stidham) already on their roster, who they already know very well, and who has had a year in their system, training wheels behind TB12…really, that’s their best bet. So, if they’re going to set up a young QB to step into the role, they darn well better give him some TE talent to throw to, reload at LB, more depth on the OL, and just get younger and more affordable overall to manage their cap and the future. They did that. They even drafted a potential starting safety a year before they needed him. Tom Brady doesn’t exist anymore. He’s been replaced, piece by piece, by a cyborg. He’s more machine than man now, and it’s only a matter of time until he’s an invincible touchdown-throwing computer.
