With respect to symptoms of ALL THREE DM diseases – there are many; but they are NOT related to the pancreas itself, but rather, with respect to the loss of the functions the insulin performs. As noted above, insulin’s PRIMARY function is to facilitate the transfer of glucose OUT of the bloodstream, and into the cells. When that fails to happen, several symptoms appear. The excessive glucose “left behind” in the bloodstream must be “screened out” by the kidneys; this results in diluting it into the urine to excrete it through the urinary tract; that causes polyuria – excessive urination – which dehydrates the patient, inducing polydipsia – extreme unquenchable thirst. It ALSO make the urine extremely sweet – which is what “mellitus” means (“honey-sweet”). “Diabetes” means “siphon”, and is a reference to the first two symptoms – polyuria and polydipsia – which make the patient seem to be a human siphon. SO… the three DM diseases are the Sweet Siphon diseases. In addition – in all three types, there will be fatigue; this is because the body’s cells aren’t getting the fuel they need as fast as its needed (or at all).
