Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, BHRT, consists of hormones that are exactly what human bodies make and need. They are “identical” to our naturally produced hormones. I follow hormone replacement VERY closely and stay current on the research. To my knowledge BHRT has never been implicated in increasing cancer rates or any other hormone related problem it disease EXCEPT for its contraindication if you have the breast cancer gene ( although the jury is still out on this). It varies, depending on whether you are taking Estrogen or Testosterone, whether you are cisgender or transgender, what your hormone levels already are, whether or not you need an anti-androgen, whether HRT interacts with any other health issues, and how important hormone support is for your quality of life.
