One thing to point out is that most of the political problems I’m seeing has to do with the fact that China has stem from the fact that the Chinese economy is doing *too well*. Hong Kong politics and Taiwan politics are in a bit of a mess because Hong Kong’s economy has been bad, and Taiwan’s economy has been an utter disaster. As a result there is a lot of resentment and jealousy that’s causing Beijing political problems in both places. One particular problem has to do with that a lot of people have a world view that the Chinese economy is doomed because it is run by Communists that have no clue how to run an economy, and therefore China should copy advanced Western countries who know what they are doing and have obviously superior political and economic systems. A lot of the view come from the idea that the Chinese economy can’t *possibly* be functional because by definition Communists can run an economy.
