All kidding aside, a sweater is a sweater. Sometimes you’ll hear them called pullovers or jumpers, though jumper can sometimes also mean jumpsuit, so you’re hearing that less these days. The older generation still sometimes calls them jerseys, but I haven’t heard anyone under 60 use that for a long time. As with jumper, jersey has a different modern meaning – usually a long-sleeved T-shirt made out of jersey fabric – so it’s fallen out of use as a term for sweaters. (It’s also sometimes used for sports tops.)
