South Carolina Gamecocks 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball National Champions Rise Above T-Shirt

Yep – it was a total fluke, back in late 2016 when said star’s band were playing at the South Carolina Gamecocks 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball National Champions Rise Above T-Shirt and I love this Student Union venue at the campus where I worked in Leeds’ City Quarter. Marillion was the band in question (of whom I’m a major fan) and their bassist Pete Trewavas managed to get lost after popping out for some fresh air and a soft drink (whilst setting up for that evening’s gig) and ended up at the Library I.T Service Desk where I was on the front desk handling walk-up queries. I have to confess (somewhat to my embarrassment) that I didn’t initially recognise him (his face looked familiar, but I couldn’t quite place it, you know how it is sometimes), but he was very pleasant & amenable, so I offered to take him through to the hall rather than just give him directions. It wasn’t until partway through and asking how he was involved with the gig that I suddenly realized who I was actually talking to! (boy did I feel daft when he casually mentioned that he was in the band…….)

Character-wise, he was a gent in every sense of the South Carolina Gamecocks 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball National Champions Rise Above T-Shirt and I love this word, polite, friendly and very grateful for my help – I got a signed programme from the PR team once I’d got him back to the stage and also was allowed to watch the band doing their sound check as thanks for services rendered (though sadly not the show itself, as it had sold out within 30 minutes of tickets going on sale). It’s not every day you get to meet one of your heroes just doing your normal job, so it’s something I won’t forget anytime soon. When I was serving my penance as the night auditor at a hotel in Fayetteville, NC, one night I pulled up to the property and there were a shitload of people and a bunch of cops around the property. There was a concert tour for ““up-and-coming rap stars” that had several acts on it, and some dumbass down there spread a rumor that the after-party would be held at my hotel. The cops were keeping people out but they let me in when I told them I was the desk clerk.
