The NHL just added its 31st team (The Vegas Golden Knights) a few years ago, and next year they’re adding another new team in Seattle. There’s interest for teams in Houston, Quebec City, Hamilton, and Kansas City. TV ratings have continually increased, and the NHL is expected to sign a major new TV deal in the United States soon. They’ve been experimenting with games overseas as well, playing NHL games in China and across Europe in recent years. Hockey is by-far the most watched sport in Canada, and with teams like the aforementioned Vegas Golden Knights proving immensely popular in the United States, still somewhat of an untapped market for hockey even after all these years, it seems like hockey is only poised to grow.
