So I donned a saree during my interview. I got too many stares while waiting in line from fellow applicants. Adding to that I was talking to the security guard in Tamil and Hindi to get some information. That got me funny looks from people around too. Eventually, when I got to the officer, he looked at my application and asked me if I had been living abroad for x+ years. He asked necessary questions about my job on what I like about it – a way to gauge my job responsibilities as well as to make it not sound like an interrogation. He looked amused throughout the session which I’m pretty sure was because of traditional wear on someone who is not 40+ interview candidate. More amusing to me was that the candidates in the next window were super surprised to hear me speak in English.
